Bad News for Brainy People

STORY MATH PROBLEMS The Bible is like those story math problems you used to try and solve in school: "Johnny had 15 apples. He went to an overpass and threw them at the cars. How many vehicles did Johnny wreck, and how many years did Johnny spend in jail?" You remember these problems. You would scratch your head and say to yourself, "But I don't know how old Johnny was at the time of his arrest, and I don't know how fast he could run!" The Bible is the same way: It is the revealed mind of God, and as such is filled with mysteries, riddles, hard sayings, puzzles, parables, confusing proverbs, and perplexing problems. Understanding the Bible is a sin-damaged, finite man trying to comprehend an omniscient and infinite God. Most of us have the good sense of "knowing that we don't know," but the American Educated Man simply will not take "Unknown" for an answer. Since God hasn't graded our papers yet, the proud theologians stand by their desks and pompously boast they have even pinpointed what prison Johnny was sent to! Oh foolish, college educated American Christian! I would remind you that the Bible can only be clearly understood by revelation knowledge. No amount of schooling will be able to help you unravel what God is doing or saying, apart from the Holy Spirit which reveals God's purposes to us, and only in HIS timing. Open your Bibles to see that this is true: |
