MIND IS DISEASED 

Many Protestant Christians criticize the Pentecostal believers for their emphasis on experience and emotion. Emotions are considered unstable and unreliable, so the intellectual pursuit of God is emphasized, and considered the only reliable method of knowing God. However, Isaiah has this to say about our minds: 

"Why should you be beaten anymore? Why do you persist in rebellion? Your whole head is injured, your whole heart is afflicted. From the sole of your foot to the top of your head there is no soundness -- only wounds and welts and open sores, not cleansed or bandaged or soothed with oil."  Isaiah 1:5,6 

Our human hearts are sick, but so are our human minds. The only condition that can heal our mental wounds is to have our damaged minds "soothed with the oil of the Holy Spirit." 

When Jesus walked the earth in Israel, the smart Pharisees were clever enough to twist the divine prophecies, and weave convincing arguments that Jesus could not possibly be the Messiah. These brain-damaged leaders pointed to the scriptures and said "'How can the Christ come from Galilee? Does not the Scripture say that the Christ will come from David's family and from Bethlehem, the town where David lived?'" John 7:41,42 (see also John 7:40-52) 

The Pharisees were skilled enough at distorting God's word that they were able to outthink, outsmart, and verbally beat down the common people who were not learned in Bible knowledge. All the common folks knew is that they liked being around Jesus, and they loved the good things he did for them and the good words of his gospel that freely gave them eternal life. As we clearly know now, those who trusted in their experience with God turned out to be right, while those who trusted in their knowledge of God turned out to be dead wrong.
