DAVID, SAUL AND SAMUEL King Saul was not real pleased when David was chosen by God to take his place, so Saul spent most of his life trying to kill him. Once it became obvious to David that he was no longer safe in Saul's palace, he began to flee from place to place, with Saul always hot on his heels. The first place David fled was to Ramah, where the prophet Samuel was. Together they went and stayed at Naioth, where a whole company of prophets were living. When Saul found out about it, he sent three companies of men there to capture David, but they were unable to do so. Each time they came near, they encountered God's "prophetic force field." Saul himself came to attack David, but he also was stopped dead in his tracks. 1 Samuel 19:18-24 Here is the lesson: David found safety with the living prophets. He did not seek protection in the "Graveyard of Moses" or among the "Bones of Joseph." Those were indeed mighty men of God, but they were dead. If you want to be secure in this evil age, then you like David are going to have to seek out the "living prophets" that are already here. If you want a place to start, read some of the books or contact some of the prophetic ministries I have already mentioned. Some other excellent sources to assist you in dealing with living prophets are the following: Streams of Shiloh, po box 427, Miline, Il 61266-0427 --Excellent prophetic teaching materials supplied by John Paul Jackson, a living prophet. You Can All Prophesy, by Dennis Cramer (Treasure House 1992 7, phone (717)-532-3040) --This is a solid, practical book on dealing with the active gift of prophesy in living (and imperfect) people. Good instruction for when you take God's command seriously to "Eagerly desire to prophesy." 1 Corinthians 14:1 |
