Dream Warnings One of the purposes of dreams is to bring you warnings from God that in certain areas of your life you are going the wrong way, and that pain and disaster will come upon you if you continue in that direction. This function of dreams is very clearly revealed in the book of Job:
As these verses so clearly state, God is constantly speaking to us in our dreams, but we are constantly ignoring His warnings! For most of us it is because neither our culture or the American church has taken our dreams seriously, so we have ignored them. But we don't want to be like that. If God is giving significant warnings to people through dreams, then we want to become experts in understanding and responding to those warnings. As Scripture also reminds us: "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge." Hosea 4.6 When I first became aware that my dreams were important, I spent a lot of effort trying to decipher them, which initially was quite frustrating, because I was willing to learn and respond, but the meanings kept eluding me. As I look back on it now, even though direct understanding was difficult to come by, there were still at least three good things that happened: One, my dreams blocked me from giving in to my own sinful weaknesses, thereby protecting me from potential harm. Two, I have been building a "sure foundation," gaining wisdom from both my successes and failures, which I can now safety pass on to you. And finally, I have this assurance from God himself "All hard work brings a profit..." Proverbs 14.23 |
