PRURIGO NODULARIS --Low Glycemic Foods
Low Glycemic Index Foods

First, I want to recommend that everyone pay a visit to the above
website. They talk about the benefits of eating Low Glycemic Index
Foods. Those who are already following the Alkalizing Diet should
have no problems cross checking your food choices with the Low
Glycemic Index. In general, most of the high alkaline foods are also
Low Glycemic Index foods.
The book is called "The Complete Guide to Fat-Storing Carbohydrates"
by the Glycemic Research Institute, which contains the World's
Largest Low Glycemic Food Index.
Why should you care about Low Glycemic Index foods? Because
alkalizing and Low Glycemic Index foods are the foods you should be
eating. If you are eating a diet of saturated fats and High-Glycemic
Index foods, you can potentially create an inflammatory cascade as
those foods become arachidonic acid, and in turn can become pro-
inflammatory factors like Cyclooxgenase 2, Prostaglandin E2, 5-
Lipooxgenase, Leukotriene B4, etc.
One of the possible reasons people have PN is because of persistent
low grade inflammation/infection in their body. A simple blood test
can reveal inflammation just with elevated levels of lymphocytes, C-
reactive proteins, etc. Therefore, avoiding High Glycemic Index
Foods is your first defense.
Since some inflammation has nothing to do with diet, but with a low
grade infection, I will talk details in a later post about things you
can do to reduce inflammation and improve your PN.
