I have mentioned here before about bathing first in glycothymoline, then peroxide, then iodine (not all in the same day).

catook

Lye soap --it helps a lot of skin problems and itching. I do not wash my hair in the shower or tub. Keep those soap residues off your skin.

Purpose Soap  --I have to tell you that the Purpose soap has subdued the itching and pain from the sores.

Cold Bath -- I did try this last summer when I nearly went crazy.
I filled the tub with the coldest tap water and it gave me relief for some hours.

Cool showers help my itch.

Extremely Hot Showers -- All I can say is, part of my healing is due to my extremely hot showers in the mornings and before I go to bed. It's a VERY fine line between the very hot water and having it too hot so that it's painful. Pain is NOT the goal. Intense hot water to appease the bumps into shrinking, and to appease the nerve endings to stop itching, is.

Vinegar Baths --I started swimming in a salt water pool about 2 months ago and found that it really seems to help. When I was desperate to get rid of some of these bumps/sores I tried vinegar. It certainly made the bumps react!!! I now have vinegar baths about once a week which also seems to help.

Tar Based Shampoo  --I have seen numerous dermatologists with varied success. Twice I was symptom free for a significant period of time after 3 months of oral antibiotics. I've never experienced headaches connected to the condition. Tar based shampoo seems to keep my scalp under some control. Swimming in the ocean also seems to help.

No SLS Products  --Hi everyone, just wondering if any of you have ever noticed any connection with use of shampoos, body washes, etc. containing "SLS" (sodium lauryl/laureth sulfate) and similar chemicals and aggravation of your PN. I had been reading that SLS is quite toxic and commonly used, so bought some products that don't contain any, and I have noticed a reduction in itch/irritation of my one one spot on the nape of my neck.

Water  --Has anyone ever complained of itching while in the water? Like in the bath, shower, pool, hot tub, etc? I realized tonight that it was the only time that I did not itch.

PN4YRS

Lachydrin  --Lachydrin is a commonly prescribed lactose (milk) based skin soother for acne etc...it really is a wonder if you have healed PNs and want to stop them becoming dry and itchy. Apply after hot bath night and again in the morning. Works well. Stings like a bitch if you have an open wound though, for just a second.

Masada Dead Sea Salts or Epsom Salts  --I used to soak in Masada Dead Sea Salts until I retired and could no longer afford the $16.00 a bottle that only lasted me about a week. Now I use epsom salt (cheap at the super market or pharmacy) and sea salt that I also get in the super market in the section where they sell table salt. Soaking in the tub in hot water for about 30 minutes not only feels wonderful but helps dry up the lesions.

Ahava Dead Sea Salts  --I sometimes like to take baths with Ahava dead sea salts. I find that the salts close the open sores and are very relieving.
