Shaving her legs and NO waxing --Keeping my legs shaved close seems to keep the itch down during the day. I tried waxing and had a horrible eruption that lasted most of the summer. I think when everything is smooth it is much better. |

Johnsg |
Burning --Take a lighter, heat up the metal rim, and touch the metal to your bumps to burn them. This appears to kill any microbes that are causing the PN. Be very cautious and do one or two lumps first to make sure this works for you, since you are literally burning your skin. Wait a couple weeks to see what happens to the first burned lumps before doing this to your other PN lesions. |

Hospital Tape --The first thing I did was try to stop scratching with the help of Benadryl, Claritin, Capsaicin and Penaten and hospital tape to cover the itchy spots. The less I scratched, the fewer bumps I had. I no longer use any of those products. |
|

Spedangie |
Humidifier & Cephafil detergent --They have me using only Cephafil products, an additive free detergent, and advised a humidifier to keep the air from being so dry. |

Chelation Treatments --My inlaws both took chelation treatments years ago in Las Vegas when the treatment was much more controversial than it is today. My father in law lived to be 90 and my mother in law is still alive and well at age 94. My father in law was told he needed heart surgery, and this was an alternative, so he opted for the chelation. It worked for him. Thanks for your input. |

Cryo Therapy & Compound W Freeze Off -- I have had several treatments of cryo therapy for pn. It does work but it may have to be repeated more than once. There are new over - the - counter products for do it yourself cryo wart removal. Compound W Freeze Off is one brand. Info can be found on the net. |

Devil's Claw Liquid --Devil's Claw (liquid extract) [taken orally] really seems to help - not cure, but help ALOT! I have been taking it for two weeks with DRAMATIC improvement. My doctor was absolutely amazed when he saw the difference from a couple of months ago, when my PN was out of control. Both my original derm (who I dropped), and my doctor felt that there was always a secondary infection that increased the redness of the sores. I have been on long term antibiotics (mainly Bactrim) which do help. Since I have been taking the Devil's Claw extract twice per day (liquid), the redness, size and the discomfort of the sores has diminished considerably. Many have disappeared leaving the infamous scars. I am still taking my allegra 180mg once in the morning, and I also recently began a liquid concoction of MSM, Hyaluronic Acid, and mulitvitamins. None of this was really doing anything for the PN until I threw Devil's Claw into the mix. |

Paper Tape --I have discovered paper tape. I'm allergic to the adhesive in bandaids so for years have been cutting gauze pads to size and using paper tape. In the past few months, with about 20 stubborn sores, I stopped using the pads and just tear off a piece of paper tape and put it directly over the sore. It's great! It seems to reduce the itch and if you lightly scratch it and it won't tear through. It has really helped the healing, now they are mostly all scabbed over. I still put the paper tape on the scabs too. It's also tons faster than bandages (gosh, I recall so many days it took an hour to plaster bandages all over my body! hooray, those days are gone!) If you decide to try it, make sure to get the hypoallergenic paper tape, not plastic or fabric tape. |

Nexcare Tape + Penaten --I use Nexcare first aid tape. It's plastic but I'm not allergic. I dab the spots with Penaten and put the tape over it. Stays on till I take it off. |

Sun + Ocean Water --I had a beach vacation and got a very nice tan. However, the nodules of course do not tan. So they are just as pronounced as before. Luckily the nodules all healed after all the sun and salt water. |

Devil's Claw liquid --I have been using Devil's Claw for the past two weeks twice per day. I have a liquid extract, and use one dropper-full each time in juice. I am having remarkable improvement, especially on my arms and on the upper sides of my torso. Many stubborn sores have shrunken, and smaller nodules have disappeared. Currently, the major uses of Devil's claw are as an anti-inflammatory and pain reliever for joint diseases, back pain and headache. There is currently widespread use of standardized Devil's claw for mild joint pain in Europe. Potential side effects include gastrointestinal upset, low blood pressure, or abnormal heart rhythms (increased heart rate or increased heart squeezing effects). |

MSM tablets + Tanning
Bed + Devil's Claw Liquid + Zinc Oxide Ointment --PN is flattening
out and healing. I've had no new sores erupt, and the only existing sores
that are being stubborn are ones that I've scratched or accidentally
wounded. Hard scabs are forming. No more scabs sloughing off in the shower.
No more bleeding. Very little itching. My arms - elbow to hands (more on
this in a minute) - are almost entirely healed with pinkish/white scars
starting to fade back to normal skin tone. |

Rheumatologist --Since you are going in the direction that PN is an autoimmune condition, and going in the direction of inflammatory inhibitors, you may want to consult with a Rheumatologist, as that's the specialist who can run the various test for all the autoimmune markers. |

Rotating Antibiotics --I don't like the idea of consistent antibiotic usage, but it does drive the lesions back. I think rotating various doses is part of the key. |

Autoimmune Disorder --The more I do research on my Rheumatoid Arthritis the more convinced I am of this being an Autoimmune Disorder. The meds being subscribed for these 2 conditions keep matching. I know this doesn't help our cause, but it just seems we are searching high and low for a cure or a reason, and I think it is Definitely AD. |

Alkaline Reserves, Detox organs, Healthy Flora, Diet changes --Once you have rebuilt your alkaline reserves, detox your major organs, repopulated the gut with healthy flora, eat a diet that has plenty of live enzymes to enhance your reserves, you can re-introduce a moderate amount of comfort foods. |

Allergies --I think that my PN started with a bug bite, so I can't seem to equate that to food allergies. I am a very healthy person who rarely is sick. I have had skin problems all my life and I believe that the PN is more an allergic reaction than an unhealthy lifestyle. |

Best Treatments --Of all the treatments I have attempted for my PN the most effective have been: sea water/sea salt baths (they clean out infection); topical application of hydrogen peroxide and bacitracin ointment (clean out infection); sunbathing. |

IV Antibiotics & UVB --For me, the two things you mentioned - antibiotics and UVB light treatment - seemed to help the most. Instead of the long-term oral antibiotics I took an 8-week course of intravenous vancomycin. |

Detoxing Organs --The safer way to detox is to start with the colon and get it work regularly, with consistent productive bowel movements. Then move on to detoxing the liver, and kidneys. Make sure these major detox organs are working optimally. Then have a Biodentist remove any existing amalgams, using Huggins protocol. Then begin mercury chelation protocol using Alpha Lipoic Acid. Doing a mercury chelation protocol prematurely can lead to backfire, redistribution risk, healing crisis symptoms, etc. as described by Dr. Cutler. |

Laser Treatments, RetinaA, Bentonite, Apple Cider Vinegar, Zinc --Thought I'd share what seems to be working towards breaking up the nodules. It's taken some time (2 years!), but the rf laser treatments (q 14 to 21 days) along with RetinA or similar, bentonite, apple cider vinegar & zinc pyrithione (all daily) seem to be paying off. Not sure if it is all or a combination that is doing it, but I'd say I'm 70 percent better. |

Tagaderm --Hi all If you can get the Tagaderm You will find that if you cover the areas where you have bumps infected, or bleeding, or just new unscratched they will stop itching. The tagaderm can be pricey but it is very much worth it. as soon as you cover the bumps they will get fluid in there like a blister, but that is the body's way of healing itself. Also the bumps do not scar much at all when you cover them. |

IV Hydrogen Peroxide, Laser, Blood Irradiation --I just wanted to add that the Hydrogen IV Peroxide treatments got rid of my itching completely. In 2005 I had 20 treatments of Hydrogen Peroxide and 7 blood irradiation treatments, along with several laser treatments on my back. I am almost completely free of PN. |

Water Filter --I have a machine, Jupiter Mavello, which not only filters the water, but also makes alkalized water by separating the alkaline and acidic minerals in the water. It’s the water that consistently tested at 9+. |

Capisplast Patches --I just came across a case study in Europe that used Capsiplast patches to eradicate PN. It has capsaicin and belladonna in it. I wonder if it'd be worth trying. |

Gold Bond Powder --If you need something that will help with itching you might try Gold Bond Triple Medicated Lotion. It really helps me to relieve the itch. |
|

Bioflavonoids --If it's environmental allergens, then increasing bioflavonoids makes sense. Other cheaper products I can think of for environmental allergens are Quercetin, Bromelain, Vitamin C and Stinging Nettle, used together, they make an effective histamine blocker. |
|

Catook |
Ice Pack, Colostrum Tablets, Echinacea Tablets --The best regiment for me is ICE pack on itching and I take the Colostrum tablets. Once in a while if I get worse I take Echinacea tablets to help my Immune system. Thats about it. |

Vitamins, Diet, Allegra, Lexapro, Tanning Bed, Mupirocin, Protopic Ointment, Ocean Water --I am taking vitamin, fruit and veggie capsule, fish oil, Allegra, and lexapro for nerves. Using tanning bed about 3 times a week. Putting Mupirocin and protopic on bumps or sores. I also get in the pool about 3 times a week. I think more swimming pool would even help more. Over these 40 years I have noticed that pool water and ocean water seem to help and especially the tanning bed. The better my tan the better my skin. |

Duct Tape --I HAVE TRIED DUCT TAPE OVER MY LESIONS AND AFTER 3+WEEKS THEY ARE MORE CLEAR THAN EVER BEFORE. I think the effect of the duct tape is that it sticks well and your body heat makes you sweat and the lesions stay moist. when you remove the tape after 20 to 24 hours your lesions are soft and you can rub layers off at a time and let dry for a few hours (until you start itching) and cover them up again. CAUTION! I DID GET AN INFECTION IN ONE OF MY LEGS THE FIRST TIME I USED THE TAPE FOR 22 HOURS. I COVERED AN OPEN SORE THAT MADE MY LEG INFECTED. IT CLEARED WITH STRONG ANTIBIOTICS (500 MG X 3 PERDAY OF KEFLEX) FOR 10 DAYS AND IT TOO HEALED. I AM BACK ON THE TAPE AND THE RESULTS ARE WORKING SLOW BUT STILL WORKING NON THE LESS. |

Tanning Bed, Clearasil Lotion --Forgot to tell you tanning bed REALLY help me. Clearasil(skin color) also is great. Covers up and helps dry up. Be sure to get skin color. Also, when the bump dry, I shave off the dry scally stuff and use the Mupirocin to soften the skin. It is working, try it. You will need a prescription for the Mupirocin. |

Laser Hair Removal -- I talked for months to my derm. about getting laser hair removal, but she said she didn't think it would help. Well, it has. It has been 2 weeks now since I have had it done, and the itching has decreased 98%. |
|
06-28-04 |
Terry |
Laser Hair Removal -- Just to give you an update. I had my laser hair removal done over 2 weeks ago and the itching has stopped. The hair left is just the light ones, which the laser wouldn't pick up. But, I can deal with that. Haven't had to shave my legs in over two weeks, and it's been the best. |

Cordran Tape --Also if it helps I am applying cordran tape at the affected areas. and it really helps me from scratching those places. |
|

Balsem Aktiv --I have been using Balsem Aktiv of PT EAGLE INDO PHARMA of Tangerang, Indonesia and it almost immediately relieves my itching. What's more, the relief lasts for quite some time. |
|

Aussie |
Phenergan, Zytrec, Sorbelene Cream, Cool Showers --In Australia I use either Phenergan (10mg) or Zyrtec. I use a sorbelene cream after showering, and never have hot showers or baths, as they seem to irritate the skin. |

Penaten Cream, Capsaicin, Medical Tape, Diet
Changes, Vitamin C, Less Stress --What I believe helped me the
most was first of all, applying Penaten cream, liquid Capsaicin “Heet”
and/or medical tape which greatly relieved the itch, and I consciously tried
to stopped scratching. Then I started to build my immune system in every way
I could. More fruits and vegetables, more exercise, more happy thoughts –
less stress, and huge quantities of chewable vitamin C. |

to wash me, and my clothes with...As well, as very little chemicals to keep
the house clean...I also moved from that house most recently and am doing
better with the PN.... I forgot to add that I also have a HEPA air filter I
run at night. |

Here are the many things I
do:
I avoid the following oils:
Corn, canola, soy, safflower, sunflower. I do not cook with them nor
consume them in processed foods which is where they are further
bastardized by the hydrogenation process and made similar to
plastic. These harmful oils promote many types of disease. They make up
70% of arterial clogs (Lancet), they promote inflammatory
prostaglandins, contain oleic acids which clog pores with sebum and
cause itch. |

Healthy Food, Vitamins, Rest, Positive Attitude, Prayer --I try every day to give myself what I need: yummy and healthy food, vitamins, activity, rest and enough sleep. Then I feed my spirit, with inspirational books, meditations, prayer. It's a new way of life for me, but I'm OK doing it one day at a time! |

Vitamin E Oil applied to sores, Vitamin C, Vitamin E --I have been applying vitamin E oil to all sores and scars and wow things are clearing up wonderfully. I have not had any new outbreaks in the past 2 months. I am also taking a daily vitamin. My doctor says I should be taking at least 800mg of vitamin C and also some vitamin E to help my autoimmune system. |

The Water Cure, No
Alcohol, No Caffeine, No Vitamins --In December of last year I
heard a radio show about “the water cure” and decided to try that. I have
had wonderful results, going from 20 lesions to none (at the present time).
In addition to the water cure I have stopped all alcohol and caffeine, cut
out all vitamins and allergy medications (difficult, because I have asthma
and many allergies, but they seem a bit better on the water cure). The only
meds I take now are my blood pressure meds, calcium and potassium (my body
does not retain potassium) Hardest to give up was the caffeine, I had
horrific headaches for about 7 or 8 days. |
