FULL OF HOPE --My Response to Sept 11, 2001

Today I am full of hope.

The entire world has united together to fight against the scourge of terrorism which has harmed us all. When the terrorists struck the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, they made a huge mistake, because it wasn’t just Americans who worked in that office. No. Many nations lost their citizens in that barbaric attack, which has strongly motivated them to join the USA in our determined and persistent quest to bring an end to terrorists of all kinds.

I am full of hope, because our President has chosen a wise path for our military forces. He has not asked for revenge, which God has told us He will not bless. (Romans 12:19) Instead, President Bush has called for Justice, which our God encourages and supports. (Proverbs 21:15 & Revelation 19:11)

I am full of hope, because throughout history, we have seen the religion of Islam spread throughout the world by force, violence and declarations of Jihad, or Holy War, against all those who did not believe as they did. As the world watched our distress on September 11, the vicious attacks on our nation were so vile and so reprehensible, that peace-loving Muslims throughout the entire world have now rejected the fanatical elements in their religion. It will now be exponentially more difficult for any Muslim to try and stir Islamic peoples to acts of violence against Jews, Christians, Hindus, Sikhs, etc.

I am full of hope, because I have seen our nation rise up with one voice, denouncing hate crimes against Mideasterners or Muslims who are living at peace in our great country. And I have seen our American people quickly reach out instead with messages of comfort and protection for those who were fearful. Because we have shown peace to our vulnerable Islamic brothers and sisters in our midst, you can be sure that satan is going to have a much more difficult time bringing the events that result in the end-time persecution of Christians. Because we have sown peace and not anger, you can be sure that God will reward us all with a harvest of righteousness and goodness for many years to come. (James 3:18)

I am full of hope, because the peace-loving Arabs in Afghanistan have welcomed with open arms American military assistance in that embattled nation. Indeed, Muslim nations everywhere have shown an open and warm willingness to cooperate fully with the USA in our cry for Justice. Muslim nations such as Pakistan and India and Iran have all suffered from the curse of violent fanaticism within their own governments, so now we watch in amazement that these nations which used to be so cold and resistant towards America are now willing to grant us full cooperation in our righteous quest to bring peace to the world.

I am full of hope, because it used to be we were fearful of Russia, a world Superpower that has the military hardware to attack the US with nuclear weapons. But now Russia has also become our friend, for that large nation has also suffered from Muslim extremists in their country over many years. To my amazement and awe, Russia has freely opened its doors to the American military in a measure of goodwill and cooperation I have never seen in the world until now.

I am full of hope, because our Military has no desire to inflict further suffering on the poor, innocent peoples of Afghanistan. Because they know war is coming, most (if not all) of the Afghans have made their way to the relative safety of the Pakistan border, where they are pretty much out of harm’s way.

I am full of hope, because our President has lifted economic sanctions off of Pakistan and India. When those two nations developed nuclear weapons during these past ten years, our political leaders were afraid of the very real possibility of those nuclear weapons getting into the hostile hands of the fanatical Muslims that populate those two states. In a measure of limited punishment, we imposed economic sanctions against them, refusing to let them benefit from trading their goods with our nation. Because of those sanctions, their peoples have been impoverished, but now with a Presidential Executive Action issued early this week, those harsh sanctions have been lifted, which now allows for prosperity and financial comfort to flow freely between our countries.

I am full of hope, because God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble. (James 4:6) Our President has humbled himself before God and the world, because he knows he cannot fight this battle against evil alone. He has boldly and forthrightly quoted scripture in his speeches and called upon all Americans to pray to God for help, both now and on an officially proclaimed yearly National Day of Prayer. Because of that humility, our leaders are now eligible for an outpouring of God’s needed and abundant Grace to help us in our time of great need.

In contrast, the fanatical Muslim leaders of the Taliban, which currently rules Afghanistan with a cruel and iron Islamic fist, have publicly boasted to the world of their might, skill, determination, courage and strength. They loudly and defiantly proclaim that Allah is on their side —they defeated the great empire of Britain which attacked them in the 1820s; they defeated the Russian superpower in the war of 1980 to 1989; and now they threaten to defeat the American superpower which has come against them.

But my God resists the proud, so I have great hope that He will step in and frustrate their arrogant plans and dangerous schemes. I have deep hope that my good and gracious God has heard the cries of the innocent in Afghanistan who have been brutalized by the Taliban, and now the Sword of God’s Justice has come to their rocky doorsteps.

Today I am full of hope, because as I watch with startled amazement at the rapidly unfolding events of World History, I am seeing with my own astonished eyes the strong fulfillment of this great prophecy and beautiful promise:

“The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet.
The grace of our Lord Jesus be with you.”
Romans 16:20 NIV
