Saved-Lost Christians are under intense pressure to keep ALL the rules. If A sin can keep you out of Heaven, then ANY sin can forfeit your chances of being saved. As the Saved-Lost Christian searches through God's Word to make sure he's keeping all the rules, he comes across two commands that look like Spiritual Mount Everest:

"BE HOLY, because I am holy."   1 Peter 1:16

"BE PERFECT, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect."    Matthew 5:48

To the human mind, these are impossible tasks for a Sin-stained Christian to attain. Surely to get to Heaven is a very difficult task! Well, let me put your Spirit to rest, because you don't have to exert great effort to be holy or perfect. It is a gift from God.

When a leper came to Jesus to be healed, Jesus said to him, "BE CLEAN!" As soon as Jesus said those two words, that leper was instantly clean. Mark 1:40-42  Jesus did not hand that leper a stiff wire brush and tell him to go home and struggle painfully with scrubbing off his dead flesh for months and months before he could become clean. NO! Jesus said BE CLEAN! and the leper was instantly clean. That same Jesus says to the sinful you: BE HOLY. BE PERFECT. And you know what? Because Jesus spoke it, you are holy. You are perfect. It is a gift from God. The leper didn't have to scrape off his putrid flesh, and neither do you.

Well, you don't feel holy or perfect, do you? Well, "God...calls things that are not as though they were." Romans 4:17   Believing what God says about you although you don't see it yet is called Faith. By Faith we believe what God says, and He says we are holy, perfect, and TOTALLY SAVED!
